Jackie Bass

Welcome to University Prep
– Commerce City!

Welcome to University Prep’s first pre-kindergarten program! My name is Jackie Bass and I am the Director of Early Childhood Education. Before joining U Prep, I spent over a decade in child care, working directly with 2 through 4 year-olds, implementing Creative Curriculum, the program we use today.  I hold a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, and am a fierce advocate for the well-being of our youngest learners. Five years ago, when my husband and I were getting ready to move to Denver, I came across University Prep’s mission and vison and that was it. I was hooked. The commitment to educational opportunities for ALL scholars resonated with me so deeply, I knew I’d found the organization for me.

We know the early years of a child’s brain development are the most critical to establishing a healthy foundation for their education and life journey.  We are thrilled to be able to offer a high quality PreK program to our families and to be a part of your child’s early childhood education. Throughout the year, our program will evolve with your scholar as they learn and grow, progressing from a free flowing schedule to one with more structure and routine.  We believe children learn through play, and we work hard to align our curriculum and routines to those of our elementary program in service of ensuring kindergarten readiness.

Thank you for choosing University Prep’s Prekindergarten program to jump start your scholar’s education and future life opportunities. I am beyond excited to get to know you and work alongside your family this year and beyond.

Karla Salas

Bienvenidos – Welcome!

My name is Karla, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to our school community! At U Prep – Commerce City, we are dedicated to creating a warm and inclusive environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. I take great pride in serving the community I grew up in and attended school in. It’s a privilege to bring a high-quality, public school option to our neighborhood — one I wish I could have attended in my formative years.

As the Dean of Operations, I find immense joy in ensuring that our staff and families have everything they need to help our scholars succeed. Together, we’re committed to giving every child access to the best education possible and the opportunity to pursue their dreams, no matter who or what they aspire to be.

At U Prep, our core values of pride, responsibility, enthusiasm, and perseverance guide everything we do. From family events that celebrate our diverse heritages to personalized interactions that strengthen our partnerships, we strive to create an environment where every family feels supported and every child has the tools to dream big and achieve greatness.

Welcome to the U Prep family—I’m so glad you’re here. Let’s work together to build an inspiring, nurturing, and empowering experience for our young people!

Staying Connected

Communication between school and home is key – be sure to update your front office team with any changes in phone, email or address.

Ways for Parents to Get Involved

We love parents working alongside of us to bring our mission to life.

School Accountability Committee (SAC)

If you’re a parent who wants to take a leadership role in the school and be deeply connected to decision making, SAC is for you! The group meets quarterly and leans into school quality and performance along with budgeting and programmatic decision-making. Click here to learn more about SAC.

Families for Achievement Council (FFA)

Think about FFA as your historic Parent Teacher Association (PTA), but with a core focus on student achievement. The FFA at each campus is a large group of parent volunteers who meet regularly to support our campuses and ensure scholars and staff are being supported and uplifted. Whether treating teachers to a wonderful lunch in recognition of their incredibly hard work or organizing a pep rally for our scholars prior to state assessments so they know the whole community is cheering them on, FFA brings additional joy to our daily experience.

Parent Champions

While we love and appreciate our parent volunteers, we also have opportunities for parents to become part time employees and serve as ambassadors to our schools. Our Parent Champions program provides parents with an opportunity to support our annual enrollment efforts, joining alongside of our enrollment team in a seasonal effort to spread the word about U Prep and the opportunity families have across our communities to become a part of our schools.
